A Few of My Favorite Things....

Dagney is doing some really cute things right now that I don't want to forget:

#1. She hides. Lately, Dagney has been hiding a LOT. One night, Sam and I were watching TV in the living room, and Dagney went into our bedroom. Since there was no one in there, the room was pitch dark, so we went after her. We couldn't find her (even with the light on). We looked under the computer desk, in my closet, in Sam's closet. No Dagney. We looked again in my closet, and she was wedged in the very corner in the dark, being perfectly still and silent. Creepy!!! She hid similarly in Sam's closet one day, and she hides in the pantry a lot. My favorite, though, is when she hides in the bathroom. This is common when she hears the word "bed." She never wants to go to sleep, so she runs and hides. She goes into the bathroom, closes the door, and stands right on the other side of the door so you can't open it. However, if you open the door just a little, you can see her little reflection in the bathroom mirror. She is always standing against the door, with the bottom of one of our bathrobes (which hangs on the back of the door) covering her eyes, so you can't see her. The cutest thing ever.

#2. She scares us. Dagney also plays peek-a-boo. She will pull back the shower curtain and yell, "Boo!" She does it in bed, too. She'll go under the covers for a while (actually an impressively long time for such a little bit), and as soon as you're convinced that her little attention span has shifted elsewhere, she peeks out and yells, "Boo!" and just cackles.

#3. She remembers. We've been working on "please" and "thank you." The other day, I was eating candy and Dagney started fussing and stomping her feet because she wanted some too. In an effort to get her to say "please," I asked, "What do you say?," to which she responded, "tick-a-tea."

#4. She pats my back. Sometimes when I pick Dagney up, she squeezes me tight and pats my back. It is so awesome.

#5. She wears spaghetti. We always undress Dagney when she eats spaghetti. It's her favorite, and she REALLY gets into it. I absolutely LOVE the big orange ring around her mouth when she finishes eating. It reminds me of the make-up that Vaudeville actors wear to make it look like they have stubble or five-o'clock shadow. I call her my little Vaudeville hobo when she eats "sketti."

#6. She loves "wa." Dagney calls anything liquid that isn't milk "water." She points to whatever we're drinking and asks for it with increasing volume and urgency: "Wa. Wa. Wa! Wa!Wa!!!"

#7. She is concerned for others' well-being. Dagney likes to stand rightinthemiddle of the kitchen while I'm cooking. I guess she just likes to be with me when she hasn't seen me all day :). What I enjoy, though, is that she keeps telling me that things are "'ot." She points at the red coils that she can see through the oven door: "Mama, 'ot." When I pick her up and she can feel the heat coming off the stove, she points and tells me it's "'ot." Last night, after I touched the skillet I had just pulled out of the oven not once, not twice, but THREE times, I yelled; Dagney walked past and said, "Mama, 'ot!"

Love my little peanut!
