Halloween

In preparation for Halloween, we tried and tried to teach Dagney to say "trick-or-treat." We actually got pretty close-- she says "tick-a-tea," which I think is pretty good for a wee bit. The "r's" are hard! We trained her with candy, though, and she put together VERY quickly that "tick-a-tea" equals candy. She is such a word-sponge right now! She has learned water ("wa"), bite, toe, bubbles, "Nik-Nik" (what she calls Nikki), mine, bed, and snack. This brings her word count to 37! Little smarty pants!! :)

Dagney had so much Halloween fun! On Saturday, we had our Halloween party. We just had a few friends over and ate and watched scary movies. It was low-key but fun. Dagney got to see everyone in their costumes; I don't think she noticed a difference.

Sunday, we went to McWane Science Center. She had such a blast trick-or-treating and playing with the science stuff. We also ran into Sam's cousins there. Small world! Dagney was really mesmerized by the astronaut suits that are on display there. She kept staring at them very intently. I don't know what she was thinking!

After McWane, we went to the Fall Festival at McElwain Baptist Church (where Dagney goes to daycare). Everyone kept complimenting her Alice in Wonderland costume, and some creepy chick was taking pictures of her on her cellphone. They had candy and carnival-type games. Dagney really liked the one where you fish for ducks in a kiddie pool. They had mini-golf. Dagney picked up the golf ball and ran, holding the club above her head, to drop the ball into the hole. They had ring toss. Dagney put the rings on her arms like bracelets and ran away with them. They had cornhole. Dagney stood against the board and dropped the beanbags through. She didn't quite get the hang of the games, but she had soo much fun!

Monday, she had her class Halloween party. She wore her "trick or treat" outfit that Grandmama made her, and mommy made lots of treats for her class. I think the class party was pretty uneventful. The highlight was when Ella had an allergic reaction to something, which was obviously less than fun.

Monday night, we took Dagney trick-or-treating. It was so much fun! I had forgotten how awesome trick-or-treating is. We went to a neighborhood over in Homewood with lots of kids and Halloween decorations. This neighborhood did it up for Halloween! People had fog machines in their yards, graveyard scenes, bonfires, and everyone was sitting on their porch with a candy bowl. Sam talked me into dressing up, and I'm glad we did. We had a blast. People kept complimenting our costumes; one lady even took my picture! It didn't take Dagney long to get into the groove. After a couple houses, she was RUNNING house to house chanting, "tick-a-tea, tick-a-tea, tick-a-tea." It was adorable. People would hand her a couple pieces of candy, then she would bend down and rifle through their bowls, filling up her little hands. She got a little basket of candy, and was so exhausted, she passed out holding it as soon as we got in the car. She never even got to have any! However, she has since made up for it-- I will hear her saying very quietly, "tick-a-tea," only to look out and see her at the kitchen table helping herself to a Tootsie Roll Pop (her favorite). Little stinker!
