Can't A Mom Get a Break?

So, Dagney didn't have a virus. She kept spiking a 104 fever every 6 hours for 5 days. She slept a lot, and every second she was awake, I was cramming Pedialyte in her, trying to keep her out of the hospital. She felt so bad, I made her pimiento cheese and she didn't even eat it. On the fifth day, she was only awake for 2 hours the entire day. I got tired of playing the waiting game and took her to see her doctor. It turned out, the doctor we saw on Monday missed an ear infection. As a result, it had gotten so severe that the ear drum was bulging from pus build-up, the ear was draining into her chest causing a cough, and she kept falling over because her equilibrium was off. We got some Augmentin, and she hasn't run a fever since her very first dose. I learned my lesson-- don't see the new doctor (AKA the only one who isn't booked). That would have saved Dagney a lot of misery and me an entire week off work and school.

Diagnosis in hand and Dagney already feeling better from her first dose of medicine, we decided to go to Alabaster to meet daddy for lunch. After all, we literally hadn't left the house in 4 days. On the way to Alabaster, the AC started acting funny (yes, the one I just had fixed 3 weeks ago). I was messing around with the AC buttons, trying to figure out what I was going to scream at the mechanic who just worked on it, when the car started to decelerate and make a noise. I pulled over and realized, too late, that it wasn't the AC. The car had overheated and the engine was blown. So there I was, sitting in the grass on the side of the road in 100 degree heat with a sick baby. Joy.

When we finally got home, Dagney was absolutely exhausted. She went to sleep almost immediately, and I stayed up to check out some vehicles online. The next morning, mom came up to help Dagney and me car shop while Sam was at work. We were geared up for a long day-- test driving cars with a crabby baby in tow. I had found a too-good-to-be-true deal online, and wanted to go check out a Toyota Highlander-- I was sure it had been wrecked or something. It hadn't; plus, it drove great and was still under warranty. So, we made pretty efficient work of the car buying process-- first one we went to see!

Just when I thought our luck was turning around, Sam took Sammy to the vet for a skin issue he's been having. It turned out he has a yeast infection under his armpits and some bacterial deposits on his skin. His vet visit cost $519 and enslaved us to a month of intensive drug therapy. He has so many pill bottles, it's ridiculous. Plus, orders for twice a week baths. After all, if there's one thing I have plenty of, it's extra time. Sheesh.
