Fake Blood-- Not Just for Horror Flicks Anymore

Twice now, Dagney has scared the absolute crap out of me with food. One day, when she was about 9 months old, she was playing under the table while I was working at my computer. When I looked down to check on her, she was "bleeding": there was red streaming out of her nose and the sides of her mouth. I freaked out and jerked her up as fast as I could. She thought it was funny, and when she guffawed in my face, her breath smelled like peanut butter and chocolate. That's when I remembered that Sam and I had been eating M&Ms the night before, and she apparently found and ate (and quite enjoyed) a red one.

Today, we had a similar experience. I was driving home from a doctor's appointment. Dagney was tanked, and I was waiting for her to fall asleep in her carseat. I looked in the rearview mirror and saw that she had "blood" next to her eye, but she was asleep. It was a little creepy, because she looked like LeChiffre from Casino Royale, but she wasn't crying. I pulled over to inspect her, and realized that her fingers had retained a lot of the strawberry Nutragrain bar I had used to buy some quiet at the doctor's office. Apparently, when she got sleepy, she rubbed her eyes and got strawberry stuff all over her face. Two mini-heart attacks later, I don't think she's allowed to eat anything red anymore!
