Today you are one year old! I can't believe how fast the year has gone. It seems like just yesterday that I was telling the nurse to come wake me up every 3 hours because I was afraid I would sleep through your feedings. Now when I sleep, I am aware of ants walking!
I know you won't remember what we did today when you're a big girl, so I'll tell you:
You woke up to breakfast in bed and daddy singing Happy Birthday to you. You were still groggy and not in the mood for snuggles, so daddy left for work a little sad. Once you were good and awake, mommy took you to school and went to get cupcakes for your class. I came back around lunchtime, which is 10:30 in your world, and we spoiled everyone's lunch with cupcakes. You and Reggie were hogs-- you had 3 mini cupcakes each! Ben only got a bite of one, because Lily dropped hers on the floor and stole his. Mali was being a bit of a stinker and just kept screaming. Overall, though, I think the celebration was a great success. Mommy took lots of pictures since daddy wasn't able to make it to the party.
Next, we came home and played a little while before going and meeting daddy for lunch. He was so excited to see us (especially you, because he wanted the cuddles he missed out on in the morning)! We had Mexican food and, although you had already eaten, you always have room for guacamole! With that finished, we started home for a nap, only to get a pleasant surprise: Gammy and Grandmama were on their way up! We played an inordinate amount of peek-a-boo on the trek, and got home just in time; as soon as we walked in the door, they called to say they were here!
We played with Gammy and Grandmama for awhile, took a nap, and when daddy got home we all went out for Indian food-- you, mommy, daddy, gammy, grandmama, auntie Stephie, uncle Kevin, Amie, Nikki, and Hitesh. We all had a great meal (you had raita), then you got to put on some funny hats and pretend you were an Indian princess. Also, the guys did some magic to entertain you-- they really pulled out all the stops! We sang to you and ate some cake. You couldn't get enough! You played with your friend Deepa, who went to work on her off night just to see you on your birthday.
All in all, it was a great day; and it's been a great year with you. True to your name, you are the brightness in our lives. I look forward to many more birthdays with you, my sweet angel!
